Books
Roberto has initially introduced the PDP in the book Data Engineering with dbt, published in June 2023, following the success of multiple real world projects where the methodology has been used.
He has since polished the architecture and refined the governance to allow a perfectly natural evolution of PDP projects towards a data mesh context, if desired.
Since the release of the first version in the book, also the PDP macros have been extended in functionality and their usability has been improved by allowing to use either SQL or YAML to apply the major patterns, like ingestion or staging.
Roberto has started work on a second book, tentatively titled “Building a Pragmatic Data Platform with dbt and Snowflake” to discuss these improvements along with the evolution in dbt to better support multi-project needs, with or without data Mesh.

Data Engineering with dbt
This is the book that has introduced the Pragmatic Data Platform (PDP).
The book covers most topics of data engineering, adopts PDP as a simple yet powerful reference architecture and uses a sample project to guide the reader through most features of dbt and dbt Cloud.
Published in June 2023 it is available at major online bookstores

Building a Pragmatic Data Platform with dbt and Snowflake
This book is still writing-in-progress.
The goal of this book is to offer a complete guide to Pragmatic Data Platform (PDP) implementations.
The book covers layer-by-layer all the needed work to build a modern data platform that is quick to build, easy to maintain and resilient to changes thanks to the use of proven patterns encoded in the PDP macros.
